Ms D Walker
I have been employed at Yorkshire Bank Plc for twelve years and previous to this, was a Relief Manager across the county for William Hills. I am a new governor at Headlands School and took on the role after becoming involved in the Parent Council and believing that I could make a difference from there. I am a parent of a blended family with five children and currently have 1 daughter at Headlands School, and so it was important to me to find out what was happening in the school and to make sure that parents had an honest voice within it. I have also taken on the role of Treasurer within the newly formed group ‘Bridlington Pride’, as I feel that the LGBT+ community in Bridlington, and in particular young people, deserve to feel safe and to be represented, and I hope to be able to utilise this position alongside my role as a governor of Headlands School
Mrs V Exon
I joined the Governor body, in my first Governor post, in November 2014. I currently have two children attending Headlands School and I joined the Governing body because I wanted to support the team at Headlands who are striving to provide an outstanding school for our children. I am a member of the Achievement Committee, the Leadership and Management Committee and I am the Link Governor for KS3 and KS4 Achievement. I am also a member of the panel responsible for the Performance Management of the Headteacher. In my professional capacity, over my working life, I have worked in a number of Retail, Legal, Administrative and Financial roles and I am a qualified Bookkeeper with over 20 years’ experience in both private and public sector financial roles. I am passionate about promoting the mental and physical well-being of our students as I believe this is fundamental to their success both personally and academically. I was proud to achieve the ‘Youth Mental Health First Aid’ Training Course certificate, studying alongside the school staff which should help us to better support our young people.
Mrs J Isham
I am very proud to say I have been a Governor at Headlands School since May 2012, firstly as a representative of the Local Authority. More recently I became a Co-Opted Governor and am currently the Vice Chair. I Chair the Behaviour and Safety Committee and am also part of the Leadership and Management Committee and the Achievement Committee. I taught for 34 years, retiring in 2010 from my post as Head of School in a Federation of 3 schools in Nottingham. I am interested in all aspects of Education and have always been determined to support young people in achieving their best possible outcomes. My Link Governor responsibilities include Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, Safeguarding, Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare and monitoring the progress of the disadvantaged. I am passionate about supporting Headlands School in their aims to become a beacon of excellence in the Bridlington community.
Mrs A Wilkinson
I have worked as a teacher for over 20 years and have worked in both Primary and Secondary Schools. I have worked proactively on School Development plans and assisted with School Improvement. My current role is an Education Consultant, this involves working in schools around the country supporting them to improve their provision for Social, Emotional and Mental Health.
Mrs E Philpot
I have been a Governor at Headlands School for over 3 years, with Careers Link responsibility. I have also been a Governor at feeder school Bay Primary for approx. 8 years, where I Chair the Finance Sub-Committee, and have supported their continuing improvement to achieve a “Good” Ofsted rating in 2015. I firmly believe that our local Schools should be supported to achieve the required standards, so that they are automatically the first choice for their catchment area. I bring over 30 years’ experience in Local Government to my role – I am currently a Programme Manager for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Economic Development Service. As a parent, in my professional role, and as a Governor, my aim is to support the work being done by the School to ensure that our students are aware of the future career opportunities that this area has to offer, and raise aspirations, so that they make the right choices while they are at School to improve prospects and achieve potential. I am also keen to improve links between the School, and local employers, to help to meet the future skills and recruitment requirements of businesses in the surrounding area.
The Revd Matthew Pollard
Matthew is the Rector of Bridlington Priory Church and Area Dean of Bridlington. Matthew sits on the Standards and Behaviour Committee of the Governing Body and conducts acts of collective worship (assemblies) in school.
Mr P Robson
Married with 2 daughters, employed as the Operations Manager at AB Graphic International Ltd, and have been here for nearly 20 years As Bridlington biggest employer I am responsible to some extent for over 200 employees and Production output of more than £40m per annum from the Bridlington facility. Born in Bridlington and a previous student of Headlands I am passionate about the town and the School, I have a Daughter in Yr8 and another that has recently finished Headlands to go to her next challenge. What I contribute to the Board of Governors is access to Industry, an instigator of the idea for the HEAD partnership, a partnership that aligns an educational pathway into an engineering career with the support of Headlands, East Riding College, AB Graphic and Derwent training. More recently I have introduced the Senior Leadership Team at Headlands to a number of improvement methods and ideologies that are used in industry to continuously improve systems, processes, quality and outcomes. These methods are very transferable and are currently being implemented in the school with positive feedback being received. In previous roles I was a Service Manager for a Company that Serviced the Leisure industry, specialising in family entertainment centres and Theme Parks, I have over 30 years’ experience of engineering, industry and manufacturing. Also a keen if not very amateur cyclist, the Headlands Tour de Bridlington and Villages charity event that supports Young Person’s Sports Clubs in the town was also my idea .. Sorry for that !!
Mr I Walton
I have been a teacher for 19 years and I held a number of Middle Leadership positions joining Headlands School in January 2016 as Head of Geography. I joined the Governing Body in January 2017 and sit on the Leadership and Management, Teaching and Learning and Behaviour and Safety Committees. Headlands School is a “good” school with hardworking students, dedicated staff and impressive outcomes for students. Being a part of the Governing Body at Headlands School allows me to contribute to the future direction of the School and gives me another opportunity to assist the School as it moves towards “outstanding”.
Mr R Fishburn
As a parent of 2 children currently attending the Headlands I have previously been involved in fundraising and attending parent council. In my professional life I am currently an Account Director for the UK’s largest independent Telecoms, IT and Cloud provider. As part of this role I head up a team to effectively manage and grow key accounts in the North of England. My duties comprise of legal negotiations, fault resolutions, sales consulting, relationship building and account development. My financial responsibilities are to maintain and manage revenues of £2.3m annually and find new revenues of £1m annually. The transferable skills I hope to bring are a great attention to detail, private sector business experience, negotiation skills to assist with saving money and entrepreneurial ideas to assist the school in generating new revenues.
Ms E Hewitt
I started as a Parent Governor at Headlands school in 2016. Both my teenage daughters attend the school. I work as an Adult Mental Health Social Work Team Manager for North Yorkshire County Council, which has informed my involvement as a Parent Governor. I am particularly interested in the schools policies around Safeguarding, and the educational attainment of those young people who experience parental substance misuse or mental ill health, and how the school can be an integral part of their support network to enabling young people to reach their full academic potential.
