Over the past 6 weeks Bridlington Squash League coaches have been trailing a youth development scheme at Headlands School, which is now moving to stage 2 for the summer period. The squash courts at Bridlington Leisure Centre have been provisionally booked every Monday between the hours of 10am – 1.30pm beginning 24th July, so further coaching may be offered in groups of 10-12 staggered over this time slot.
Each child will be taught how to enhance their squash skills and at this early stage of their development we have witnessed incredible improvement already in the 40-50 students who signed up to the scheme. We as a Club would like the opportunity to help each and every child to learn and understand this great game and with the help of Activfirst, Bridlington Leisure Centre Management team and Local business ‘The Workshop…’ we are able to offer these summer season coaching sessions free of charge on a first come first serve basis. We intend to maintain the groups we already have in place from Headlands School but should a child’s friend or sibling be interested in joining they are welcome to do so. Should a parent or older sibling (16+) be interested in learning this great game please make contact as we also have an adult league coaching program.
More information about Bridlington Squash League may be found online: www.bridlingtonsquashleague.co.uk
On Monday 17th July courts have been booked 3.30 – 6.20 pm and all children interested have been asked to attend interdependently after school within this time slot, not only to play squash but so we may also detail the summer program. All parents are invited to sit in on all sessions throughout this trial where seating will be available. Our Head Coach is Charlotte Fish, Level 2 Badge, who was a former England seeded player throughout her teenage years with a vast experience in coaching techniques. Charlotte has created an email account for parents/guardians or children to contact her to confirm their place or simply to answer any inquiries. Charlotte will be the only person to have access to this email address.- email@example.com .
On Monday 24th July the courts have been booked between 10am – 1.30pm of which will be our official start date for the summer period. Each group will be informed what time to attend for their training session which, depending on numbers, should last between 40-60 minutes. It would be advisable for all children to purchase a drinks bottle to bring along with them as it can get quite warm on the courts over the summer period. All goggles will be provided. During this trial period we intend to organize mini tournaments etc. and link the success of these to our main webpage as well as promote in the local newspaper so if there are any children who are not allowed to be photographed please drop Charlotte a line to inform us.
Finally I would like to thank all the children not only for their superb behaviour throughout this trial but for support of the Headmistress of Headlands School and all the P.E department.
