Letters Home

Monday 12 July has been set aside for a range of activities for students to engage in

Uniform Policy

Most of our students arrive at school in full uniform each day. Consequently they look smart and are a credit to you and to the school. I would like to thank you for your continuing support. However, there remains a small minority who do not.

I am writing to ask for your support in ensuring that all our students arrive at school appropriately equipped and ready to learn.

Important information about a “Legal High” drug known as MCAT

Recently, in an East Riding secondary school, a 6th form student took a legal drug known as MCAT and was taken ill before an A-level module exam.  Last week the deaths of two young people in Scunthorpe have also been associated with the use of this drug.  You may have heard about these incidents in the media.

We will be speaking to all students regarding the dangers associated with this drug in assemblies this week and as part of our ongoing drugs education.  However, we are writing to give you the following information about this drug to raise your awareness so that you can support your children to minimise risky behaviours.

The Spring term is one of great importance for both you and your child.  It is during this term that the subjects that your child will study in their next phase of education will be selected.  The process of selection began last term with a parent’s information evening in December and an ‘Initial Interest’ options form issued to students.

Over the last 18 months we have made a lot of progress in improving attendance, uniform and behaviour.  I feel we are working more closely together to continue the improvements already made which all contribute to creating a positive climate for learning in which we can deliver the standard of education that our young people deserve

Parents Letter 2/11/09 Headlands School Out of Special Measures

Headlands School taken out of Special Measures

After a difficult week for students, parents and staff we wanted to write a brief letter to thank you for your support. We spent a lot of time visiting lessons on Friday and the behaviour of students was exemplary and highlights just how far we have come as a school.

I would like to take this opportunity at the end of a school year to go through a number of issues which will help prepare all our students for the new school year:

1. Pastoral Care 2. Behaviour for Learning Policy 3. Data Protection 4. Punctuality 5. Uniform 6. Equipped to Learn 7. Homework

Headlands School was visited by HMI on 23 and 24 June 2009 to undertake the fourth Special Measures monitoring inspection and they judged that good progress has been made since the last visit
