Year 6 Transition

At Headlands School, we understand that the transition from primary school to secondary school can be an anxious time for both children and parents/carers alike.

We would like to re-assure you that we will do everything we can to alleviate any worries either of you may have by giving you as many chances possible for you to familiarise yourselves with your new school.

This includes visits from our staff to primary schools, transition days for Year 6 students to taste a full secondary school timetable, information evenings, and extra visits if required.

New Year 7s are also introduced slowly to alleviate any fears they may have about transition and promote a positive learning environment prior to the rest of the school coming back after their holiday. Our aim is to provide every student with a unique and enriching experience to prepare them for the next stage of their academic learning journey.

In September, we welcomed Year 5 and Year 6 students and their families, from a number of primary schools in the Bridlington area, to take a look around the Headlands School site, meet our staff and find out more about life at Headlands.

The whole site was buzzing and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.  There were activities in all subject areas for Year 5 and Year 6 students to try.

Here are some of the comments we received from parents who attended the Open Events.

Summer School

Each year, Team Headlands hosts a Summer School – another part of the transition process from primary school to secondary school. This year we delivered a weeks worth of activities which gave Year 6 students a chance to get to know the Headlands site and make new friends.
