I am writing to inform you of your child’s upcoming Sex and Relationship Education course in January. This is a statuary part of the National Curriculum and is accessible to all students in Year 10.
Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) is essential if young people are to make responsible and well informed decisions about their lives. The objective of RSE is to help support young people through their emotional and physical development as well as communicate effective relationship structures. Students will be given accurate and unbiased information to help develop skills that will enable them to understand how to respect themselves and others with the purpose of preventing harm and removing prejudices. RSE prepares students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
Students will have six one-hour sessions where they will undergo a comprehensive Relationship and Sex Course. This course will be situated on the timetable within the your child’s scheduled PSHE lesson which is delivered by myself, Personal Development Co-ordinator/ PSHE Lead and another trained members of staff. The breakdown of these sessions, as well as the learning outcomes for each lesson, will be available through the Headlands School website. The topics covered in the course are in line with the Government guidance document and the Sex Education Forum’s research on outstanding practice within RSE.
I appreciate the themes within RSE can leave some parents/carers hesitant. If you require further information that of which is not provide on the website please contact Ms Renard.
